Although dental implants may seem like a cumbersome solution, they have many advantages. The new materials make it a comfortable and aesthetic aid. However, there is a contraindication.
Dental implant: scientifically proven benefits
The success rate of implants is high and the benefits are numerous. First of all, it avoids the use of dentures (which are removable prostheses) and preserves the bone capital. In addition, the implant offers better comfort since the tooth is directly fixed to the jaw, chewing is done in complete safety. From an aesthetic point of view, what could embarrass the patient disappears. The implant is a state-of-the-art technique that ensures maximum reliability and restores self-confidence thanks to the stability of the teeth. It should be noted that the life span of implants is considerable. It is estimated at ten years, but in reality it can be several years. However, the patient is required to observe good oral hygiene.
A major contraindication
Dental implants can fail when the bone is fragile or of average quality. This is the only case where implants are not recommended, unless it is possible to remedy the situation with a bone graft. This is done on the chin or hip. In addition, scarring can become problematic, but it is only visible afterwards.
Titanium and zirconia, two materials for the implant
Most of the screws serving the implant are made of titanium because it is rather well accepted by the bone structure and avoids rejections. It is known for its strength. The second material is zirconia, which is praised for its whiteness, but experts do not have enough experience to fully master it, even if this new material has made considerable progress.
